Nursery is officially done....like dinner:)

It's been a long haul with this room but it is truly a labour of love that is now complete:) Without further delay here is James room.....now all we need is James so we can start using it!

Incase you all forgot what the before looked like here it is. This used to be my office/craft room. In reality it was more of a spot to dump my junk...lol My wonderful father in law converted the guest bedroom closet into a work space for my future sewing and card making project (pictures will follow).

This feature wall was a true labour of love. After painting the main wall colour with the assistance of my very pregnant friend I spent 6 hours drawing the trees then painting them. I went with one coat versus 2 because I like the grain that it added to the trees - little more real in my eyes.
The tree beside the closet is a growth chart. Up close you can see little numbers from 1ft to 5ft. I wish I could take the credit for DIYing the curtains but my mom was wonderful and found these easily adjustable curtains at IKEA. All I had to do was shorten them the perfect length and then iron them with no sew tape.
This is one of my favorite pieces of the room. I saw a friend do this for her little one and thought  it was too cute not to recreate. This project cost me a whole $10 I think. I used 3 embroidery hoops and a wooden letter J, plus some fishing line and jewelry clasps to hold everything in place. I then painted it all the same off white I used for the trees on the wall.

My wonderful cousin gave us this saying, and the matching story book as a baby shower gift. Little did she know that this is actually my favorite childhood book! I was so excited to receive this. I think it adds that perfect finishing touch to the wall.

Every little baby needs a giraffe named Sophie!! I finished the lamp and mirror using the same antique finish that I used for the lamps in our master bedroom.

I wanted a change table but didn't like the $30 price tag and found them a bit big. I created my own with the help of a friend. I just used 2 pieces of firm foam. One for the base and then cut 2 inch wide stripes and glued them to the top edges. I used some left over fabric from the bedding and made a matching cover for it.

Finally!!! The bedding. Two of my good girlfriends helped me with this large endeavor. This was a bit more then we bargained for but it turned out amazing and was well worth all the effort!! My main reason for making this was because I didn't see any bedding sets out there that went with the relaxing look I was trying to create, but also I was trying to save some money. Well the bedding definitely goes with the look I was trying to achieve but sure didn't save me any money LOL! Actually cost more then buying a set but ah well you only have your first baby once right? You might notice we are missing a crib sheet, I'm waiting on the mail for it to arrive.

I haven't sewn in probably 10years so the above project could not have been done without my girlfriends. But it got me inspired so I bought a new sewing machine and finally was able to use the left overs of fabric and made this cute valance!

But it's not just a swing, its more of a ride that bounces up/down and side to side. It has several different modes that one can try. It can mimic a car ride, bouncing in a kangaroo, riding a big ocean wave, or the rocking motion of mom and dad.

Update on nursery:)

I have been a very busy girl the past two weeks. I took down all the old ugly trim in the nursery. My girlfriend who is very pregnant and I got to work and painted all the walls Pioneer Grey from Benjamin Moore. I then hand drew all the trees following an image on the web on my iphone...oh yeah that was fun going from a small picture to full size:P I installed crown molding and new trim....trim is almost all done. Oh I also painted a grow chart on the wall too....using the same tree idea. Tomorrow I'll finish the trim then I'm done until the bedding and curtains material gets picked out which is in May. I figured I should get it all done before I loose this lovely burst of energy I have!

Here is what we started out with:

Here is the finished product so far:)

Here is the growth chart.

After all this we have to wait for the dresser to arrive. I have a few shelves to hang on one wall. We find out the babies sex in two weeks and then we can choose baby bedding and curtain material:)

New update!!

Sorry to everyone for not being around with any exciting DIYs lately:( DH and I have been every busy with christmas and our biggest news this year.....We're having a baby!!!! Our newest addition is due August 2011.  Dan and I, and our family are very excited for the new arrival.

This of course means some changes are coming to our household. I still have a few finishing touches to do the guest room including the completion of the trim. Which will get done as I soon as I start the trim in the babies room. My office is being sacrificed for the baby which is sad but for great at the same time:)

Without further ado here is our new addition

Here are a few ideas we have for a nursery. We already have the dresser and am ordering the crib (but in black, not colour in pic) soon. Now just waiting to find out the gender:)

Here are a few nurserys I love.....

My newest obsession is this wall. I think for sure we're going to do this!!

I could easily become obsessed if stripes could always be this easy!!!

So after completing our masterbedroom last week I decided that the guest room needed some dire attention. For the past 2.5 years guests have come and gone from that room with no complaints. The bed was comfy, what more could one ask for. The room never had any style and I felt it was very plain. Reminded me of a college bedroom that had a bed and that was about it. I started with getting a beautiful new bed set, thanks mom for the great birthday gift:) Then I found  3 mirrors for $5 each that made for a perfect headboard. Recently I've seen lots of stripes online and thought it would create a perfect accent wall behind the bed. Thats all I've really done so far. The walls are painted, half the crown and trim are done. The nightstand is being painted brown then heirloomwhite over top with distressing afterwards. Still have lots to do but here is a quick peak. I have some great dark wood and chrome lamps for the room too. I may also build some shelves using leftover crown....depends how much trim we have left.

Sidenote the green on the wall is a bit off from the bedding but I think it work perfectly with the right accents.

I will of course post more pics as things change in the room:)
